Innovative IHL tools by Geneva Call Ukraine awarded two prizes

The “Laws of War Bootcamp” has received two national awards in Ukraine.

Launched by Geneva Call Ukraine in August 2025, the platform offers practical tools to train military personnel on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and how to apply it in the field. It was built in response to the evolving realities of warfare in Ukraine and reflects Geneva Call’s long-standing commitment to turning humanitarian norms into practical action.

The platform builds IHL knowledge through realistic training scenarios designed to promote responsible military conduct. Developed with input from veterans, military experts, IHL specialists, and human rights lawyers, it includes three interactive tools: An e-learning platform with 12 thematic modules at two levels; an app with 22 combat scenarios for practical knowledge assessment; and a simulator with nine first-person combat missions.

Veteran officer and IHL instructor Rodion Trystan described the platform’s value as its practice-oriented approach, which lets participants test and apply their IHL knowledge through realistic scenarios and exercises.

The platform currently has over 12,000 users and has reached over five million people across Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. The two awards — the Bronze Award at the MIXX Awards Ukraine 2026 and the X-Ray Marketing Award — reflect its national impact.

Michael Young, Geneva Call’s Ukraine Country Director, said that although the platform was designed specifically for the Ukrainian context, “we are hopeful that this project can inspire the developments of similar tools for other contexts in which Geneva Call operates.”

We invite you to explore the Laws of War Bootcamp, which is available in English and Ukrainian.
