Geneva Call is proud to present its 2024 Annual Report, Pathways to Hope

In a year marked by 120 armed conflicts, intensifying climate-related disasters, and mounting political instability, Geneva Call’s 2024 Annual Report – Pathways to Hope – reflects both the scale of today’s humanitarian challenges and our unwavering commitment to protecting civilians in areas affected by armed conflict.

Amid the growing complexity of conflicts worldwide, Pathways to Hope offers insights into Geneva Call’s humanitarian engagement. It reaffirms a core belief: that even in the darkest of circumstances, there are pathways to protection, peace, and human dignity—and that they must be forged.

The report offers a comprehensive overview of Geneva Call’s presence in 14 countries, illustrating how our field-based efforts—from humanitarian dialogue with armed actors to community-level protection initiatives—contribute to real-world impact.

Through detailed country profiles, the report demonstrates how our approach yields tangible results – even amid immense challenges, frustrations and setbacks – by developing respect for humanitarian norms in some of the world’s most complex environments. Whether facilitating the release of children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, easing checkpoint restrictions in Iraq or strengthening adherence to IHL among combatants in Ukraine, we show the impact of our work on the ground.

The report also illustrates how our operational achievements inform our efforts to shape humanitarian policies and practices at the global level. In parallel, our field experience strengthens our thematic expertise, helping us refine the tools and methodologies we use to drive the behavioral change we seek.

2024 also marked the launch of Geneva Call’s new Strategic Plan (2024–2027). Grounded in four core priorities—promoting adherence to International Humanitarian Law (IHL), prioritizing civilian protection, reinforcing the universality of humanitarian norms, and meeting operational imperatives—the plan serves as both a roadmap and a rallying call. It reflects the urgent need to uphold humanitarian principles at a time when violations are growing in frequency and severity.

Another key milestone informing this year’s report was the introduction of Geneva Call’s first global Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework. This framework provides a structured approach to assessing the organization’s interventions across all operational contexts, ensuring consistency and comparability in tracking results.

In addition to tracking behavioral and policy changes among AGDAs, Geneva Call continues to place a strong emphasis on internal accountability and monitoring mechanisms. This includes follow-ups on AGDAs’ compliance with their existing commitments, and the effectiveness of partnerships with key stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.

In parallel with programmatic achievements, the report highlights Geneva Call’s continued efforts to champion transparency, accountability and efficiency. These internal advancements are essential to sustaining our field presence in increasingly volatile settings.

Pathways to Hope reflects Geneva Call’s determination to protect civilians and uphold humanitarian norms amid today’s complex crises. From field impact to institutional progress, the report highlights how our work drives meaningful change. Learn more about how Geneva Call is making a difference. Explore the full report.
