Geneva Call announces the release of its publication In Their Words

Geneva Call announces the release of its publication “In Their Words : Perspectives of Armed non-State Actors on the Protection of Children from the Effects of Armed Conflict”.
Even though almost all current armed conflicts involve one or more armed non-State actors (NSAs), the international community knows little about their willingness to comply with international standards on children and armed conflict, or the challenges they face in doing so. And yet NSA compliance is crucial for improving the global protection of children.
As a first step towards overcoming this knowledge gap, Geneva Call has collected the perspectives of a number of different NSAs as well as non- and partially recognized States. Several of the NSAs whose perspectives are included in the publication are listed as violators in the annexes to the 2010 Report of the Secretary General on children and armed conflict (S/2010/181). In Their Words provides new insights into the issue of children and armed conflict and aims to promote a more constructive basis for discussion between the international community and NSAs with the hope that children will be the ultimate beneficiaries.
Geneva Call is grateful to the governments of Denmark, Liechtenstein, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland for funding this work.
