Banning landmines in Syria: an innovative video linking humanitarian norms to Quranic verses to raise awareness among non-State actors
21 janvier 2020
The crisis in Syria is now into its 9th year and the situation is alarming: anti-personal mines are widely used by many actors across the country, including armed non-State actors (ANSAs), mostly in the areas that have been captured from Syrian government forces. Civilians bear the brunt of those practices. As part of a video series promoting international humanitarian norms by linking them to Quranic verses, Geneva Call and its partner on its Syria project Afaq Academy produced this poignant video on anti-personnel landmines.
The video will be used during training sessions for ANSAs and local CSOs and will be disseminated on social media across Syria.
