Local Partnerships
Local partners are especially crucial for the implementation of operational activities. Geneva Call enjoys a wealth of partnerships with local NGOs, such as International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) country campaigns, in the countries where it operates, and it also maintains contact with different levels of concerned governments. In 2008, local partners included organizations working on themes as varied as development, peace, indigenous rights, disability, women, children, displaced persons, environment, research and training, etc.
Such collaborative efforts provide each partner with complementary expertise, allowing for joint activities in the pursuit of common goals. Geneva Call recognises the role local partners play, in providing first-hand information and access to key stakeholders, acting as conduits to NSAs, civil society and the civilian population. Their expertise and relationships are also necessary in order to help ensure that Geneva Call’s activities are mindful of local practises. They are a key element in the implementation and monitoring of Deed of Commitment. Links to the websites of local partners are to be found in the table on the right.
Geneva Call, in designing projects, seeks to enhance the capacities of local partners. Partnerships which involve resource-transfer always are the object of a detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which stipulates the rights and obligations of each party, including details for financial and narrative reporting.
