Donors
For its general activities, Geneva Call is funded by States and international organizations, with a small complement of funding from private foundations, companies and/or individuals. The full list of donors is published in the Annual Report. Geneva Call is not yet in a position to finalize the 2009 list of donors, but the main ones are:
- The Foreign Affairs Ministries of Denmark, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland;
- The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID);
- The Cities of Geneva and Lancy, and the Republic and Canton of Geneva, Switzerland;
- The Loterie Romande and Geneva Airport, Switzerland;
- Medico International.
When donors provide earmarked funding, Geneva Call appeals that they allow that 10% of the allocation be provided as contribution to the overheads.
Geneva Call accounting follows each project individually, and affects funds according to the contracts signed. The accountancy firm receives copies of all project budgets and donor contracts to ensure that these are complied with.
Geneva Call always respects donor stipulations as to the use of the funds, and this is made clear through Geneva Call’s accounting and reporting mechanism. However, to improve flexibility and responsiveness to emerging situations, Geneva Call does appeal to donors to limit the conditions placed on grants and funding. Non-earmarked funding allows Geneva Call to undertake operational activities which are not specifically funded - often, the initial stages of a project, to react to emerging or urgent situations, or to cover management and administration costs. |
