Seminar dedicated to mine ban process to be held in Tbilisi

The initial workshop “Towards a landmine-free South Caucasus - for local media representatives and NGO involvement in the Mine Ban Process” will be held on April 13 in Tbilisi.

Narine Berikashvili, Consultant of the “Geneva Call” in South Caucasus, told Prime-News that the aforementioned workshop was implemented in frames of the project “Engaging armed Non-State Actors in the South Caucasus in the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban”.

According to her, “Geneva Call” is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to engaging armed non-state actors (NSAs) to respect and to adhere to humanitarian norms, starting with the ban on anti-personnel (AP) mines.

In frames of this project Geneva Call intends to strengthen the capacity of civil society and mine affected communities to voice and achieve their needs, particularly regarding the AP mine issue; support engagement, local empowerment, and disseminate within civil society information about mine use, in order to create momentum in the region in support of the mine ban, by the de facto authorities in particular, but also, indirectly, by the States.
