Yemen
Background
Since June 2004, insurgents led by Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi have waged an armed insurgency against the Yemeni government in the Northern province of Sa’ada. Fragile ceasefires have failed to put a definitive halt to recurrent waves of fighting. Reports allege that both government troops and the insurgency have laid landmines during the fighting.
Activities
Geneva Call has initiated the engagement of the Al-Houthi movement in an anti-personnel mine ban in 2008. The organization is monitoring the situation on the ground closely and is continuing to dialogue with both this armed non-State actor and the government.
