Geneva Call’s tenth anniversary celebration on 25 March

The Ariana Museum, in the heart of international and humanitarian Geneva, hosted Geneva Call’s tenth anniversary celebration on March 25. Authorities of the Canton and of the Swiss Confederation, ambassadors and representatives of various Missions and representatives of the humanitarian organizations met Geneva Call’s collaborators to celebrate the success of a new concept, which has overcome every expectation during last ten years.

Four personalities spoke on this occasion.

David Hiler, State Councillor of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, underlined the originality of this pioneer experience, which does honour to the “International Geneva”.

Thomas Greminger, Head of PD IV of the Federal department of foreign affairs of the Swiss Confederation, congratulated Geneva Call for its “impressive results”.

Cornelio Sommaruga, Honorary President of Geneva International centre for humanitarian demining, praised the constancy and devotion of the organization’s employees.

Elisabeth Decrey Warner, Geneva Call’s President, concluded the ceremony, thanking the authorities for their precious support and the employees for their great work, and underlining the success of an initiative which, in its early stages, was sometimes dismissed as good only for “day dreamers full of good intentions”.

We give thanks to Ms Yvan Pictet and the Chancellery of the Canton of Geneva for their generous financial support which allowed us to enjoy this anniversary ceremony.

L’Appel de Genève a choisi de fêter son dixième anniversaire,
le jeudi 25 mars dernier

C’est au Musée Ariana, au cœur de la Genève internationale et humanitaire, que l’Appel de Genève a choisi de fêter son dixième anniversaire, le jeudi 25 mars dernier. L’ensemble des collaborateurs s’y est réuni, ainsi que des autorités de la Confédération Suisse et du Canton de Genève, les ambassadeurs et représentants de différentes missions auprès des Nations Unies et des représentants du monde de l’humanitaire. Ils ont célébré la réussite d’un concept novateur dont le succès ne semblait pas escompté il y a une décennie.

À cette occasion, quatre orateurs ont pris la parole.

Le Conseiller d’État de la République et Canton de Genève David Hiler, a souligné l’originalité de cette expérience pionnière qui fait honneur à la « Genève internationale ».

Thomas Greminger, chef de la DP IV au Département fédéral des affaires étrangères de la Confédération Suisse, a félicité l’Appel de Genève pour ses "résultats impressionnants".

Cornelio Sommaruga, président honoraire du Centre international de Genève pour le déminage humanitaire, a souligné la constance et la dévotion des collaborateurs de l’organisation.

La présidente de l’Appel de Genève, Elisabeth Decrey Warner, a conclu la cérémonie en remerciant les autorités pour leur précieux soutien, les collaborateurs pour leur énorme travail, et a mis en évidence le succès d’une initiative qui avait trop vite été classée par certains comme le fait de "doux rêveurs habités de bonnes intentions".
